Coleman 4D Personal U-Tube Classic Lantern Review

Coleman 4D Personal U-Tube Classic LanternThe lantern is suitable as an emergency light or small camp or tent light. At the high power setting it provides illumination suitable for reading in a five foot radius; at the lower setting about three feet. The weight with batteries is about three pounds.Although not as sturdy as one with a metal casing, it can withstand moderate bumps, but dropping it is problematic with respect to internal damage.

Coleman ThermoElectric Cooler Power Supply Review

Coleman ThermoElectric Cooler Power SupplyIt is replacement for the AC adapter that came with my cooler. Not very exciting. I could buy the whole cooler for about twice the price of this item, but then I would be adding my old one to the landfill. Coleman should do the right thing by the consumer and make replacement parts available at a decent price.

Coleman 425F499G 2 Burner Compact Gas Stove Review

Coleman 425F499G 2 Burner Compact Gas StoveI have had my Coleman compact stove for 29 years. I use it for two to three trips a year and use it every day of each trip (usually 9 or 10 days per trip) to cook big meals on. It is EXACTLY the same as the new model. It has never needed a repair. I just clean it after each camping trip. Coleman fuel is inexpensive and easily found in any part of the US and a gallon of fuel lasts me practically two years. The stove fits perfectly inside a 16 gal rubbermaid container with all of my other cooking gear (including pans). I absolutely recomend this stove. You don't need one of those fancy complicated other stoves. The basic Coleman stove is a workhorse that doesn't break down.

About Coleman
More than 100 years ago, a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a better idea began manufacturing lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. His name was W.C. Coleman, and the company he founded would change life in America. A man plagued with such poor vision he sometimes had to ask classmates to read aloud to him, Coleman saw a brilliant light in 1900 in a drugstore window that stopped him in his tracks. He inquired about the light inside and discovered he was able to read even the small print on a medicine bottle by the illumination. The lamps had mantles, not wicks, and were fueled by gasoline under pressure instead of coal oil. Soon afterward, Coleman started a lighting service that offered a "no light, no pay" clause--a big step forward for merchants who were burned by inferior products that rarely worked--and drew substantial interest from businesses that wanted to keep their lights on after dark.
In the ensuing years, Coleman expanded its product line well beyond lanterns. The company's current catalog is thick with products that make spending time outdoors a pleasure. There are coolers that keep food and drinks cold for days on end, comfortable airbeds that won't deflate during the night, a complete line of LED lights that last for years, powerful portable grills that cook with an authentic open-grill flame, and much, much more. Coleman has truly fashioned much of our outdoor camping experience, and expects to do so for generations to come.

Coleman Taos Extreme-Weather Mummy Bag Review

Coleman Taos Extreme-Weather Mummy BagI am an old NW camper and needed a bag for several trips this summer. (2007)
This is a skimpy 2 pounds of fill bag. Comfortableat night with fleece pants and top at 40 degree nights.
I went camping at 3000 feet in June, wore polar fleece to bed, had to put on polar fleece jacket and hat at 1 am. Out side temp 35 degrees.
so this is good for very warm weather, RV camping, I was not comfortable and I am 5 '4 150 lbs and I found the bag tight.
spend a little more money if you are going to sleep out side, and yes i had a very good air mattrress.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Coleman Taos Extreme-Weather Mummy Bag

Product Description:
Stay warm and comfortable on a chilly fall evening with the Coleman Taos mummy sleeping bag. The Taos, which offers a temperature rating down to 25 degrees F, is filled with 38 ounces of Coletherm insulation. This allows for a greater loft--a measure of the amount of space the insulation occupies and the amount of air the insulation can trap. The bag also offers several other features to fight the chill, including a double-batt, offset quilt construction that eliminates potential cold spots, a semi-sculpted hood that surrounds the head with warmth, and a full-length, insulated draft tube that locks out drafts. And to help the bag last through the years, Coleman added a durable polyester and diamond ripstop cover that resists tears.

Coleman's ComfortSmart technology includes such features as a ThermoLock zipper, FiberLocked insulation, and a ZipPlow tool. Coleman's ComfortSmart Technology
The best way to relax after a big day of camping adventures is to wrap up in a warm sleeping bag and drift off to peaceful sleep. Coleman is so committed to making sure you have reliable and cozy bedding that it backs its Taos sleeping bag with its ComfortSmart guarantee--a promise that the bag will deliver all-night comfort. Coleman can make this promise thanks to its third-party, scientifically tested temperature ratings; engineering features that promote thermal efficiency and durability; and the creation of different bag sizes to ensure a comfortable fit.
Coleman developed a number of warmth-enhancing features for its ComfortSmart system. The FiberLock insulation tailoring, for example, is designed to prevent insulation from shifting in the bag and developing thin or cold spots. By keeping the insulation in place, Coleman also lengthens the life of the bag. The ThermoLock feature contributes by reducing heat loss (and cold seepage) through zipper coils. This sets up an additional insulating barrier to stand guard along the length of the zipper, ensuring that the snug feeling campers get when zipping up the bag stays with them through the night. Coleman also added such features as a ZipPlow zipper tool, which prevents zipper snags by channeling fabric away from the zipper coils, and Zipper Glide tailoring, which makes it silky smooth to zip the bag at the corners.
Sizing
The Taos is a tall sleeping bag, with dimensions of 82 by 32 inches. As a result, the bag fits most people up to 6 feet 2 inches tall. And despite the mummy bag construction, Coleman added a box-foot silhouette to give your feet extra wiggle room.
Also equipped with a two-way zipper for maximum ventilation, the Taos comes with a stuff sack and carries a five-year warranty.

Sleep Well: Finding the Right Sleeping Bag
Sleeping bag technology has come a long way from the days of cowboy bedrolls. These days, there are a number of high-tech materials and designs available to keep you warm during the coldest outings. Here's a short list of things to keep in mind when you're shopping for a bag:
Buy for Cold
It's a safe bet that on at least one of your adventures, the nighttime temperature will drop unexpectedly. That's why it's smart to buy a bag that's rated for the lowest possible temperature you expect to face on your camping and backpacking trips. For summer trips, a bag rated at +35 degrees F or higher will likely do the trick. If you like to camp in higher elevations in the summer, or if spring and fall outings are in your future, consider bags rated from +10 to +35 degrees F. Winter adventurers should look for bags in the -10 to +10 degrees F range, while those on serious winter alpine climbs and expeditions will want a bag rated lower than -10 degrees F.
Keep in mind that sleeping bag manufacturers' temperature ratings only estimate the minimum temperature at which the bag will provide warmth. Take these numbers with a grain of salt, as different folks generate different amounts of heat when they sleep. If you're the type who likes to pile on the covers even on warmer nights, go for a bag that's rated 10 degrees colder. The opposite is true for "warm" sleepers--a 35-degree bag will probably work for you on a 25-degree night.
Goose or No Goose?
The most important component of any sleeping bag is its insulating material. Modern sleeping bags offer two choices: goose down or synthetic. While both materials have advantages and disadvantages, down bags are considered superior because of their phenomenal warmth-to-weight and warmth-to-bulk ratios. While providing great insulation, down is extremely compressible and light. There's a reason why geese can fly and stay warm through the winter. Down also boasts great long-term durability and will typically retain its insulating properties after years of use.
All of that said, there are many high-quality synthetic bags on the market, and synthetic materials are getting better all the time. While a synthetic bag will weigh somewhat more than a down bag at an equivalent temperature rating, synthetic bags perform better when wet. (Yes, the Achilles heel of down is that it loses all insulating properties when wet.) If your trips take you to wet climates, you may want to consider a synthetic bag for this reason alone. Keep in mind, too, that many people are allergic to down, while synthetic bags are non-allergenic. Finally, down is considerably more expensive than synthetic, which might tip the balance for adventurers on a budget.
Bags for All Shapes
Sleeping bags come in two basic shapes that reflect their intended use. Mummy-shaped bags offer the best warmth because they conform to the body's contours. This minimizes the amount of body heat the body must put out to maintain a constant temperature. Many mummy bags are offered in women-specific shapes and sizes, as well. Rectangular bags, while they do offer more room to toss and turn, are less thermally efficient because they contain more open air space. Also, they are typically heavier than mummy bags, and are generally not offered with down insulation, making them best suited for car camping or short backpacking trips.
Pad Yourself
No matter what kind of bag you choose, a sleeping pad is a required accessory. Not only do they provide much-needed comfort when sleeping on the ground, pads also offer crucial warmth for your backside, as the weight of your body compresses--and renders virtually useless--the sleeping bag insulation that lies beneath you.

Mr Heater F276172 1-Pound Disposable Propane Tank Refill Adapter Review

Mr Heater F276172 1-Pound Disposable Propane Tank Refill AdapterFor safety concerns just use the source tank valve for on/off control...To fill each 1 lb. bottle more completely simply put those containers in a refrigerator or even a freezer for a few minutes AND put the 20/40 lb. FULL tank in hot water and/or in the Sun...The key here is to maximize the pressure in the source tank and minimize it in the receiving 1 lb. bottle allowing for more propane to transfer before the pressure equalizes...I've been filling these little bottles for years using this type coupler and while they may not get 100% filled as when new they can reach 80-90% with regularity when the above steps are taken...Keep in mind NO Propane tank is completely filled anyway or at least it shouldn't be to allow for excessive heat expansion when full..

Even if trying to refill in a freezing or below environment simply heating the 20/40 lb. bottle up by leaving it in a heated indoors for a few hours and/or in hot water will help tremendously to get more transferred...

When you get tanks refilled commercially the source has pump assisted pressure so this always allows for a complete fill...

Coleman 28-Quart Molded-Handle Cooler, Red Review

Coleman 28-Quart Molded-Handle Cooler, RedI purchased this cooler specifically for a trip that I was going on.I liked this cooler in particular because (1) the price - much lower than other coolers I had seen in retail stores and (2) the size - I was just going on a roadtrip and I only needed to store some waters and beers. This cooler perfectly fit behind the front seat on the floor in my corolla. It also stores 22 oz beers standing up.There are two issues that I would note for this cooler - (1) you have to be careful when closing it to make sure the lid seals and (2) my ice melted in it after one day - this was fine for me because I only needed it for one day, but if you are going on a longer trip, then maybe a more expensive cooler would do the trick. If it is a short trip like me, then this is perfect!

Coleman 50-Quart Wheeled Soft-Sided Cooler (Color May Vary) Review

Coleman 50-Quart Wheeled Soft-Sided CoolerThis cooler does NOT have a hard plastic liner. (Try the 30 can model, but that model doesn't have wheels either) One advantage I've found without the liner is that you can overload it a bit and it will handle irregularly shaped items, but I'd rather have the option of removing it if needed. Coleman does not recommend using ice in this cooler, even though the liner has heat-welded seams. You probably could use ice if you put it in Ziplock bags or something similar to prevent leakage. I use 2-3 of the large size re-freezable gel packs and it's good all day - even in steamy 90 degree heat. Bear in mind, it's a cooler, not a refrigerator.

The cons I've found are minor. The handle could be an inch or two longer. Not a huge deal, but I'm 5'10" and I had to lean into it a little when towing it. Also, I found the handle a little on the "twisty" side. Though it bumped down uneven sidewalks and pathways and didn't actually roll over, you have to pay attention. It gives you the sensation that it WILL roll over if you're not careful. I also found myself wishing it had a strap handle instead of the two side handles. Even loaded, it's light enough and one-handed maneuverability would be a plus at times. The collapsable handle is NOT suitable for lifting it when loaded.

My only "quality control" issue is that the inside liner seems a little too large and loose-fitting for the outside shell, but that doesn't affect the load capacity.

The "other" color from the one depicted is black/grey with celery green trim. You don't get a choice, but it was actually the color I wanted. Bonus!

Overall, I'm satisfied with the product. It's nice looking equipment and more than adequate for my occasional weekend concert or tent camping trip. It will probably even get an opportunity to save my bacon during a power outage.

Coleman Dual Action Hand PumpI was very disappointed with this pump. First of all it is very big, so not very practical for taking on a camping trip. Also, the hose is not permanently attached like on other pumps I have used, and it does not stay attached very well.It comes with several different sized attachments, which is handy, but the biggest is actually not very big, so if you are pumping up an air bed with a large hole, it does not work very well.

Coleman 4D Dual Action WideBeam Flashlight Review

Coleman 4D Dual Action WideBeam FlashlightI wanted a flashlight-lantern combination for power outages and camping.I found only two models of this type in my area and went with the Coleman.I've used it three times and on the last time in my time of need: (Hurricane Ike and the ensuing power failure), this thing failed me.Thought it was the battery but it was not. It is the switch. The switch won't activate the light.Luckily, I had another one but a different model that I've used for many years that keeps coming through for me.The fit and finish of the coleman seems flimsy....almost frail. This product shouldn't use the coleman name.Get something else that is more durable and reliable.

Product Description:
The Coleman 5308-700 Widebeam 4D Dual-action Flashlight provides a bright, portable light for any occasion. This dual-action flashlight has a regular path light that gives you a center-spot of light with a softer perimeter of light, plus a seven-watt U-tube fluorescent area light to brighten a work area. The Coleman Widebeam also has a flat surface base which allows the light to stand up-right when using the area lighting function. The regular flashlight beam is 50-percent broader than traditional flashlights, and the use of a Xenon blue-tipped bulb provides a whiter light. Additionally, this Coleman flashlight is designed with a 140-degree beam of light to more closely match the human peripheral field of vision.
Features include a soft rubber handle, durable shock absorbing head, and push-button on/off switch. The Coleman Widebeam Dual-action flashlight requires four D batteries (not included).

Coleman 75-Quart Xtreme 5-Day Wheeled Cooler Review

Coleman 75-Quart Xtreme 5-Day Wheeled CoolerI returned a handle shedding MaxCold 60 Roller for this fine Coleman cooler, and I'm very happy with the Coleman.

The side handles are molded into the shell, which completely removes the anchor failure mode many other coolers can suffer. The handles are large enough to offer a solid grip, yet are recessed enough to avoid becoming a cargo loading issue. The 6" wheels roll easily with a load. The rear handle is very rugged and comfortable to use. I haven't tested the cooler's ability to meet its 5 Day/90F claim, but I believe it will insulate as well as any cooler in its class.

I tested the cooler in a local W store by having a 110 lb companion sit on the lid. I didn't note any serious lid flex. I picked the cooler up by the side handles and they worked very well, with no discernable flexing. I should note that the squarish design of the cooler makes side handle use less awkward, as your arms aren't spread as wide as they would be when picking up a more rectangluar design. I fully extended the rear handle and easily tilted the cooler with the rider atop. I rolled it around on a smooth, hard floor, and I think it would roll well on slighly rougher terrain. Even though it worked well, I'd suggest pulling the front/top of the cooler to the rear while tilting it back, as that will relieve some stress on the rear handle assembly.

I see two minor flaws with the design. The rear drain plug uses a friction fit plug. While I haven't had a leak, I prefer the security of a threaded design, as it would be more difficult to dislodge. A more serious concern is the freely opening lid. There are two small tabs and detents built along the front edge of the lid and opening, but neither engaged on the three coolers I examined. I looked at a similar, smaller Coleman cooler, and while it used the same method of closure, it was almost too difficult to pry open. I think there's a little bit too much play in the lid's rear pivot points, which keeps the tabs from engaging properly. I'll remedy the problem by installing a few NIB magnets, but an external bungee cord would also work. If you buy this cooler, remember to ensure that the lid won't blow open while in a truck or boat.

I highly recommend this product.

Update 5/17/2010:
Just back from a 12 day trip to the Rockies, and the cooler was perfect.

Temperatures averaged between 5-55 F and I still had a partial bag of ice from before I left. Not a real test of the stated cooling abilities, but it's all I can report. I found that a green Smartstraps 16-24" BungeeX adjustible strap is exactly the right size to hold the lid shut. It has large enough J-hooks to positively engage the side handles, and the hooks swivel to keep the strap flat. I bought mine at Walmart, but I've had a hard time finding the same product online, even on the Smartstraps web site. I found the same strap at Fastenal (7 pack only), and it's listed as produced by Winston Products, which is the parent company of Smartstraps. Other than the green color, I can't think of a better way to secure the top of the cooler, and the strap's adjustibility would probably allow anchoring it into a truck bed with the same strap.

Here's what I'm referring to:

Coleman 9940-A55 Roadtrip Party Grill Review

Coleman 9940-A55 Roadtrip Party GrillThis is a great little portable grill - if you don't expect too much!(Too many people write reviews here expecting inexpensive items to be gold plated and nuclear powered). It's not meant to replace a regular full-size grill and shouldn't be compared to one.Use it for car camping or a tailgate party for cooking for two or three people (maybe four but that's pushing it) and just realize it has limitations, though they are easy to work around.

I got it on sale for only $25 so consider it an excellent value. It was simple to put together, no directions required and takes about a minute. My legs stay in well once inserted and come back out with a good tug. There is an included nylon carry-bag which works fine for keeping the parts together (the grille, two legs, gas bottle, pan support and plastic grille cover). It also functions well as a regular single-burner stove when you take the grill off.It feels stable and solid if set on a good surface.

The burner adjusts well from off to low to high and is quick and easy to start by pushing the burner control knob in.The drippings collect well in the pan below the burner. There is a small griddle on one side of the grill that will hold one egg or pancake (or two small ones). The biggest drawback is the heat distribution.Since it uses a small burner in the middle and has no heat distribution baffle; it is much hotter in the center than towards the edge. You get around this by actively moving your burgers around to keep them cooking evenly (this can be an advantage if you want something to cook slower by pushing to the outside).Coleman says you must put water in the catch basin, which seems to distribute the heat a little better but I think that is also to reduce the possibility of a grease fire.I tried it a couple of times without the water and it worked OK.

Overall, it is a good value when used for what it is intended for.I think Coleman could have designed the grill with better heat distribution without significantly adding to the cost, so I give it four stars.

Coleman 12 inch Steel Non-Stick Fry PanBought this because I wanted a fold up handle for packing. The light weight and folding handle packed into the camp kitchen very well. The folding handle is sturdy and the the small opposing handle is nice. But I could not rate this higher because the non-stick material is delicate and not very non-stick.After one weekend camping trip, there were scratches thru the non-stick coating.I will use it until the non-stick surface deteriorates, but it will be replaced by frying pan with a regular surface.

Coleman 12 Piece Dining Set Review

Coleman 12 Piece Dining SetI think in every Western there is a shot of guys sitting around a camp fire after a long day of riding/bulding a railroad/working a gold mine/robbing banks and trains/etc.In almost every shot, the guys are eating unidentifiable food off of blue tin plates.Well, you can't necessarily be in the movies, but you can have the plates.

This set consists of four plates, four bowls and four mugs. Each piece is very sturdy is enameled in that famous blue (or red) with white specks.Kind of like looking up at a clear night sky when you're out camping. The pieces are sized well and should hold up to a lot of use outdoors.

But here are the three reasons to get this set.First, the set is well made. You won't have to worry about sawing through your paper plate (and your leg), or your plastic plate flipping over. You won't have to worry about your hot coffee melting through the flimsy paper cup, or your half-eaten plastic bowl of cereal blowing away.

Second, hauling paper and plastic dinnerware to a campsite or a picnic site creates garbage.Garbage attracts pests and animals.Garbage stinks and creates litter.Garbage eventually has to be buried somewhere to rot, sometimes for hundreds or thousands of years.Or you could just use this set, wash it off and then use it again.Your call...

Third, it just looks cool.Plain and simple.

The bottom line is good value, good for the environment, good purchase for you!

Coleman Cable 02588 12/3 Vinyl Outdoor Extension Cord with Lighted End, 50-FootThis is an excellent extension cord for an electric lawn mower or to run motors, such as drainage motors, since it has 12 gauge wiring that's necessary for the large current draw of motors. Coleman F1 Ultralight Stove Review

Coleman F1 Ultralight StoveI purchased a Coleman Exponent F1 Ultralight stove this past spring in preparation for a trip to the Cascades in Oregon. I have owned a liquid fuel stove for years (MSR Whisperlite purchased in approx 1992), and have loved it, but as I am getting older, I have been wanting to trim my pack weight down. I have found the following advantages to the F1 Ultralight.
#1. Easy to use. Simply unscrew the burner head, open the pan supports, screw the burner head back down, screw stove onto canister, light match, twist valve, and you are cooking with gas.
#2. No priming. The liquid fuel stoves required priming, and pumping, which made them harder to use than I would have expected. With this stove, you simply turn the valve and light. No waiting for the generator to heat up.
#3. Very light weight. The stove assembly itself weighs less than just the small fuel bottle for my liquid fuel stove alone. This thing is a feather on the back.
The disadvantages are there as well.
#1. Canister stoves rely on the low boiling point of the fuel to force fuel vapor up and out of the canister, and at temps close to, or below the boiling point, which is close to 0 fahrenheit, the stove simply will not work. For me, where and when I camp, this is not an issue.
#2. Fuel cannot be used as an emergency fire starter.
#3. Fuel is EXPENSIVE compared to white gas, or unleaded gasoline.
The owners manual claims this stove only works with Coleman Brand canisters, but I have found that any threaded canister of 70/30 Butane / Propane blend works. I have used Brunton, Coleman, MSR, and some odd black Canister I bought at a gas station in Oregon with it, all with excellent results..
Compared with other canister stoves such as the MSR Pocket Rocket, Brunton Optimus Crux, Snow Peak Giga Power Stove, or Primus Yellowstone Techno Trail, the Coleman Exponent F1 Ultralight had the design that made the most sense to me, sported the lowest weight (.4oz lower than its nearest competitor), and from what I was able to determine in impromptu in store testing, appeared to have the best pot stability of the group, with pot supports that spread out nice and wide. One tidbit about this however is... The Evernew 1.3L Titanium cookpot, is oddly shaped on the bottom, and sits and a slightly odd angle on the F1. I have tried many other pots and this is the only one I have a problem with. The issue is whith the oddly dimpled bottom of the Evernew pot, and NOT with the Coleman stove...
SUMMARY. If you camp where the temps aren't freezing, low weight, ease of use are important, and cost of fuel is unimportant, then this is the stove for you. However you must carry some other sort of emergency fire starter in lieu of having stove gas to start wet wood. If however the cost of fuel is going to be a factor for you, or you are going to go mountain climbing, or whatever, you will want to bypass any canister stove at all, and just go with a gasoline model instead. The Coleman F1 Ultralight is the lightest of the group of stoves I had considered, had the best design, and came in at a price point that I liked. For the majority of backpackers out there, I would say this would be the best stove for you.

Coleman North Rim 0-Degree Mummy Bag Review

Coleman North Rim 0-Degree Mummy BagI bought this bag and took it out backpacking at White Sands National Monument in NM in Jan.A winter storm hit the day before I left and it was COLD out there.I'm not sure of the exact temperature, but I know that it was either high teens or low 20s.My waterbottle and my dog's water bowl both completely froze throughout as did the condensation on the outside of my tent, and my car was a big ice block when I got back to it in the morning. The bag actually did pretty well.I pulled the face hole as tight as I could and just cuddled down inside the bag without sticking my face out (it was too cold if I put my face out).I have Raynaud's disease and my hands/nailbeds often are very cold and turn blue in cold weather from poor circulation, but they were nice and warm inside the bag without extra gloves on.I was impressed by that.Overall I was ok, but not as warm and comfortable as I would have been at home in my own bed of course. It did it's job and kept my appendages warm enough and me alive in what could have been hypothermia conditions without the proper gear.My only real gripe about this bag is that it is huge when it's rolled up.It's too big to fit into the sleeping bag compartment of my NorthFace backpacking pack (so I imagine it's too big for any), and it takes up a very large portion of the pack when stuffed in the only way it will fit.Due to this reason I wish I would have gotten a different bag.It would be great for anyone who is just setting up their tent right next to their car, but not the best choice for a backpacker.

Amazon.com Sleeping Bag Guide
Sleep Well: Finding the Right Sleeping Bag
Sleeping bag technology has come a long way from the days of cowboy bedrolls. These days, there are a number of high-tech materials and designs available to keep you warm during the coldest outings. Here's a short list of things to keep in mind when you're shopping for a bag:
Buy for Cold
It's a safe bet that on at least one of your adventures, the nighttime temperature will drop unexpectedly. That's why it's smart to buy a bag that's rated for the lowest possible temperature you expect to face on your camping and backpacking trips. For summer trips, a bag rated at +35 degrees or higher will likely do the trick. If you like to camp in higher elevations in the summer, or if spring and fall outings are in your future, consider bags rated from +10 to +35. Winter adventurers should look for bags in the -10 to +10 range, while those on serious winter alpine climbs and expeditions will want a bag rated lower than -10.
Keep in mind that sleeping bag manufacturers' temperature ratings only estimate the minimum temperature at which the bag will provide warmth. Take these numbers with a grain of salt, as different folks generate different amounts of heat when they sleep. If you're the type who likes to pile on the covers even on warmer nights, go for a bag that's rated ten degrees colder.
There's a reason why geese can fly and stay warm through the winter! Down also boasts great long-term durability and will typically retain its insulating properties after years of use.
All of that said, there are many high-quality synthetic bags on the market and synthetic materials are getting better all the time. Keep in mind, too, that many people are allergic to down--synthetic bags are non-allergenic.

Coleman Wire Rim Coffee Cup Review

Coleman Wire Rim Coffee CupOur camping cups have all been the enameled steel variety. After a few outings they get chipped and start to rust. No more. Stainless steel is definitely the way to go. The cup is larger than our old enameled ones and wire handle is a little different as well. The handle is large enough to be used with gloves, which wasn't possible with our old cups. I've since bought more of these to fill out our camping supplies.
